I know someone working there. I was in a few group calls he organised using teams where I used an anonymous login. Then Microsoft forced you to make an account to use it, so I declined after that.
Skype used to be peer to peer. Your call went from you to your friend (whomever). Microsoft decided that they couldn’t mitm that setup to scrape data; so, soon after they acquired Skype, they made all calls go through their servers.
Then they tried to make Skype make more money, since those servers aren’t free. Then they made teams and copied half the code into that, and cludged the rest to make it hold together.
I’m guessing you haven’t tried to do it. I can spend twenty minutes trying to read something my father-in-law needs help with over video chat. From his “and how do I turn the back camera on?”, to my “no back a bit and left. The other left”, and the classic “you turned off your video, let me call you back” because it’s faster than guiding him on how to turn it on while he swears that he didn’t press anything.
He could postpone the election if America is at war.
“We have always been at war with Eastasia”
Just like my local dive…
Companies are made up of people. Companies save money by firing the most expensive people, the most experienced. The ones left have a lot less experience.
Everyone I know has their contacts backed up to google or apple. Enter your account and password into your new phone and your contacts are there. Zero benefit.
Just to b sure, I’m going to set mine at 200%, to be double sure.
$1000? That’s a lazy afternoon for bitcoin…
I’m interested in parts of the trip. Mainly the foods and food markets. What they ate where. If they want to tell me about the views or the guy at that shop who said something, I’ll feign interest.
Anyone who has been on a “cruise holiday” eats on the ship, and the food may be good but it isn’t exciting or too exotic. I want to know how you ate a sausage and found out later it was an earthworm but it was really nice because they grilled it with lime and stuff and you couldn’t tell.
Or language changes when the kids make new profanities.
However, it might be interesting to use some sort of verifiable storage format where hashes of checkpoints are distributed elsewhere, so that if someone does manage to get into The Internet Archive, they can’t go fiddle with past things without it becoming visible.
Why not use a write only medium, like CDs but obviously bigger capacity. Write once read many kind of thing. It’s an archive, it should not be able to be changed.
I use a flirc ir receiver in a RPI. Use any remote and bind the buttons to keys to set it up then go. I set mine up about ten years ago and still use the same setup even though I upgraded the pi.
Thanks, I probably will change soon, but I have to convince my partner first…
Motion on my RPI. I didn’t want it to save videos or photos, so I turned it off in the config. But it still saved them. So I tried a few other places in the config to turn it off, but nothing worked and I’d run out of space within a day. So I changed the save directory to /dev/null.
Then I tried to upgrade the pi, and the new version of motion has a different config, incompatible with the old one. So I’m running the old one.
I struggle with this all the time. I hate watching cute piggy videos because I remember them next time I eat bacon.
A friend recently went to the funeral of their brother, who similarly took mushrooms with a history of depression and alcohol abuse. He believed he had killed someone, and the guilt made him take his own life.
Stay safe people.
And to all the cyclists who use a bright led lamp on their handlebar, remember to also point them down, not straight ahead. I’ve been blinded as a pedestrian and a driver by cyclists who don’t position their lights correctly.
Personally, I define an expat as someone living in another country and not learning the language/customs.
They will never be accepted as a local because of this.
