The youtube algorithm determined the following: people who watch the kind of videos in your history, are also interested in recording netflix shows. And it was right, because you are in fact interested in that (general) topic. This is another possible explanation.

So whoever carries that anime figure is literally Luciferian.

My BFF had this skill: whenever they sang an Elvis tune (like “Blue Moon”) their cats would start humping. They weren’t singing it weird, maybe a little more warbly than normal. Anyway, we were in this zoo once, and I said, “I wonder if that lion would react to your Elvis songs the same way your cats do!” I was just kidding, but my BFF started singing the same way and that lion suddenly became VERY alert and stared right at us. I started wondering if a properly motivated lion could leap that gap that was keeping us separated, and what I would do if it reached us. Anyway, my point is: it depends on how you sing it.

The last time I bought a Mac was like 10 years ago, at an independent computer shop that specialized in them. The person at the register insisted on getting my personal info “because Apple needed it” but I didn’t want to give it. The person at the register very slowly sauntered up to their manager, had a long discussion, and eventually they figured something out because I suddenly didn’t need to give my info. It was kind of nervewracking because I was paying cash and I was like: what if I hand it over, and they change their mind? It’s not like I could call the cops, I’m the wrong demographic.

Anyway, whenever I thought about getting an Apple system, I remembered that experience and went with something else.

If you look at the meaning of the word “early” there are several senses.

• One sense is “At a time in advance of the usual or expected event.” e.g. if someone suffered an “early death.” Another sense of the word is “Arriving a time before expected; sooner than on time.” e.g. “you arrived early today!” You’re right that in these two senses of the word, “early voting” sounds weird.
• But there’s another sense of the word early: “Near the start or beginning.” e.g. “Shakespeare’s early works”. There’s also “Near the start of the day.” as in “It’s too early for this sort of thing. I’m not awake yet.” Another sense is “Having begun to occur; in its early stages.” e.g. “an early cancer”. In these senses of the word, “early voting” sounds a lot better.

You’re right, but just to rephrase:

• The natural sciences aren’t in the business of saying whether or not a given person existed.
• If you think of history as a social science, then there may be “scientific” methodologies that determine whether or not a given person existed, but that’s not what’s generally though of as “scientifically proven”

I think I see what you’re saying. Lemmy is indeed a place where it’s very easy to get involved, and people get involved in different ways. A lot of us just pick a community and start posting regularly. Some of us adopt dormant communities and bring them back to life. Others contribute by becoming mods or admins or setting up their own instances or debugging/coding. Even those people who were giving you reasons why the “transfer your account easily” project was difficult, they were helping you by telling you the challenges involved. Whenever a well-run project is started, you think about the hurdles, risks, and mitigations, then integrate those into your project plan.

I encourage you to keep getting involved. The trick is to find the right level of involvement for you, then sticking with it and seeing it through.

What I do to get around that is: subscribe to communities that are not memes, news, or tech, then read new posts by “subscribed” and “scaled”. When I run out of those, read “all” to find new communities to subscribe to.

We should call it “X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter.” Every time. Yes it sounds ridiculous, because it is.

Yeah! I submitted my first timestamps a couple weeks ago, and I got really into it, making it so the timestamps were timed just right. But in this case I was so grossed out by this techbro ad in the middle of this amazing movie, that I just clicked the window closed and went on to watch something else.

It’s a killer movie, but it’s got ads embedded in the stream… even ublock origin and sponsorblock didn’t catch them.
