Maybe there’s a third class. People paid for who they are seem closer to people who are paid for what they have than to people paid for what they do.

20ish years ago…
ELI5 How come paid cable TV channels are now running commercials? Is that not bad for business because most if not all people got it to avoid commercials?
In what way?
I still see children walking alone where I live, but I’ll admit that I can’t compare it to when I was young because I don’t pass by elementary schools before/after school to be able to see them.
I could definitely see it championed by some conservative people. Both ends of the political spectrum can have tendencies towards government control, depending on the topic.
Conservatism is often built upon fear. Also consider all of the studies linking right-wing political views to physiological differences like bigger amygdalas (which play a role in fear).
Some people will be fearful that children need to be protected at all costs, so they’ll do things like this.
Just remember which side is doing things “for the children” as a scapegoat…hide the gays for the children, no drag story time to protect the children, no sex education (even books) to keep the children innocent. No walking alone outside to protect the children.
I’m not saying this particular Karen was Conservative, but I’m saying that she could be. I’m not sure why you’re blaming Liberal people, but I’m sure you have explanations like I do (and I’d be curious to hear them), but I’d wager that the problem is not exclusively tied to either side of the political spectrum.
There’s a difference between a claim and conjecture
adequately explained.
The ignorance doesn’t explain where all the money comes from. So malice it is! Lol
A woman who saw him walking alongside the road—speed limit: 25 in some places, 35 in others—asked him if he was OK. He said yes.
Nevertheless, she called the police.
So it was all that Karen’s fault…
But so do the Stack Overflow users
Why would you want to also make Stack Overflow worse?
Yeah, I think it’s the really the Gambler’s Fallacy, even if OP doesn’t describe gambling. It’s the idea of “It’s my turn for success to come soon – I’m due for my turn!”
Maybe it was a joke that someone used back when she started the job 50 years ago. I could see it being a metaphor for something like the stone tablets that ancient texts were written on…or if she started more recently than that (or the company adopted computers by then), it could refer to information that wasn’t digital.
Donate to companies like Planned Parenthood who help women access resources for reproductive health and services.
Something like the Internet Archive would also be incredibly important for preserving what politicians and organizations have said (so that they can’t claim they didn’t say something and try to have it erased off the internet).
If money isn’t your strong suit, then I don’t know – I’m not American. But I’ll still comment for the above, and to hopefully help boost this post.
When everyone else leaves out essential details…
They knew it they needed a license, they knew it needed care, but they didn’t take care of it or make any effort to make it legal because…they didn’t want to lose their upload momentum?
I thought it was a mistake/typo. Those don’t instantly become words just because a reader can guess the meaning
You could have a list of Harris’ lies.
No one could compile a list of Trump’s lies. It’d be much more reasonable to compile a list of truths he’s said.
Man, I wonder how many people answering this question “need to” have coffee every morning
Fun, sure, but not an experiment that would actually be meaningful.
The data from your phone’s microphone doesn’t magically appear in Google’s advertising servers. It would have to go through a lot of steps before it gets there, and one of the first steps is in your home (if you’re on WiFi). One can analyze the traffic/data that leaves their phone.
It’s good to be cautious, but worrying about your phone’s microphone is potentially like worrying about your windows while leaving your front door open.
Yet again, someone mistakes an anecdote for evidence. And evidence is also not the plural form of anecdote.
I’m sure we have people here who are tech-savvy enough to have actually examined the kinds of data that their phone is sharing.
If you have something like Google Home or Amazon Alexa, then yeah, those would be sending voice data back, and yeah, they could probably use it for advertising. But as far as I know, there is no evidence that phones are “always listening” and “always sending information back” when they’re idle.
Haha thanks for taking it in good spirits!
It doesn’t appeal to the masses.
Most people don’t “get” poetry. That’s why you don’t see many people sitting around reading books of poetry.
Many people would probably also choose a short story written by AI over one written by a professional author.
Heck, I’m sure comments written by AI generally get more upvotes than comments written by humans.
