Or maybe people are just sick of coddling fascism enablers and giving them the benefit of the doubt when they just keep proving over and over that they don’t deserve it… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

One of my most used quotes, in fact I used it earlier today, it’s just so fucking accurate.
No need to apologise, and anyway, it’s not like we’re that far off, a matter of months, maybe a year or two behind the leaders in the fascist race to the bottom, so these issues are just as relevant…
No.
People who “agree with you in the goal you seek, but cannot agree with your methods of direct action” or demand we “wait for a better season” are a huge part of the problem, not the solution, and I couldn’t give two shits if they don’t like the idea of marginalised people arming ourselves in self defence of a danger they are actively enabling us to face.
I don’t disagree about the “small” ways being necessary, but so is violence, and any message that leaves that part out (or whitewashes history and the fact that oppression has never ended without the oppressed violently fighting back) is dangerous and oppressive.
Fortunately I’m not in the US, unfortunately fascism is rising everywhere, and arming myself here isn’t really an option (I am also disabled and unable to personally safely handle a firearm), but I completely agree with you, and think all marginalised people who can arm themselves, should.
Sure, and absolutely, not everyone would need to actively be on the front line of an armed insurgency, but don’t fool yourself - this regime, and the systems that enabled it, will never go anywhere without one.
Lol at Errol Musk supposedly not being a piece of shit because he was a member of a progressive party at one point, undoubtedly to serve his own financial interests and reputation, and not because he suddenly decided that exploiting oppressed people in his emerald mine (and other businesses) was bad.
He also married his stepdaughter, who he raised groomed from when she was 4.
He also apparently supported trump before musk jr. ever did - https://www.huffpost.com/entry/elon-musk-father-errol-debunks-controversial-claims_n_67475372e4b08e4755035f4e (if anyone wants to actually watch the full interview where he apparently “discussed his family’s ties to the South African apartheid regime” among other things, and report back, you’re more than welcome, but I ain’t doing it lol)
They both have zero redeeming qualities.
Ah, see I’d seen that, but (before I realised the musk salute connection) I thought a roman hug was a reference to its own thing (like maybe getting stabbed in the back?), rather than just a tongue in cheek reference to the roman salute.
Thanks for the help 😂
Thanks, the penny eventually dropped.
Also fuck that noise.
Ok, rather than edit my reply to AbsolutelyNotAVelociraptor, I’ll reply again here because your comment helped the penny drop, and I’ve read the conversation again now realising that the reference to the hand gesture is to the dickhead’s salute, so I get the first comment, not sure about the “roman hug”, and assuming the last person is being sarcastic, saying what someone on the right might say because that’s how they defend musk?
Sorry, my brain isn’t entirely in gear yet and I think there may be too many levels of sarcasm overlapping 😂
Ok, thanks, and I agree. For some reason I thought that last comment was meant to be a funny punchline or something, I think I’m just completely misreading the conversation being shown 😑
I guess I too misunderstood, what does being neurodiverse have anything to do with it?
I am aware thanks, but like Zero22xx, I never see it used on lemmy, probably because of compatibility issues across instances/services and even versions of each.
I also personally prefer the ID being easily visible right under the image, in large text, rather than the small text you get from hovering over it. This way both those who use screen readers (who don’t have the issue with small hover text), and those who use the ID for other reasons all have it accessible right there. 😊
Plus it’s a pretty cool little writing exercise.
Not half, it can be a real challenge sometimes! Thankfully there are online image to text converters that do that part, but some images can be surprisingly difficult to describe, especially if I’m low on spoons and or the brain fog is in (E: so I generally move on to an easier one lol)… 😬
Glad I could help…
Now to reply to the post itself, I think this sums it up:
Though the sad truth is that almost every single product or service we use are owned and run by people with similar opinions, it is literally the nature of the capitalist beast, it’s how it function, and why it will always decay in to fascism - because those with the power and the money (not just those at the very very top, but several levels bellow them, too, like this guy) will always and forever care solely about maintaining it and creating more for themselves, that’s it. And to do that, they have to side with whichever dictator-du-jour benefits them the most.
Remember - there is no ethical consumption under capitalism, and this is only one of the reasons why.

I can’t be the only one who struggled to read that, and for general accessibility purposes since I’m already here:

“The point is that fighting for a more just and equal society is not just about fighting for the fundamental right to privacy but also for all other fundamental rights, including individual rights and life. When you, as the CEO of a company that starts from these principles, nod positively to whatever action a political figure like Trump, who is known for always flagrantly putting his private interests ahead of those of his own nation, makes speeches about eliminating minorities, hurting their rights as citizens and flirting with Nazi movements, it is understandable that members of the privacy community are disappointed as this reveals a little about who is being the face of a company that should follow contrary principles. But now we really know what “freedom” means to you.”
Definitely words to live by.
