For me personally, it was easier to just write a few python scripts to parse the CSV files from my banks.
For me personally, it was easier to just write a few python scripts to parse the CSV files from my banks.
I switched over to this last month, and I’m already a fan of it. It did take a bit of time to port over my old shtitty excel tracking, and to write a few python scripts to parse the export CSV files from each of my bank accounts, but it is very clearly worth it.
One of the nice things is that it uses a SQLite db to store everything, so if shit ever hits the fan with one of my drives or the software, it isn’t the end of the world.
You can self host it so you can access it over the web, or you can choose to run it entirely locally. It’s pretty nifty, and I’ve elected to using it for the second option.
Ignoring the myriad of other issues listed in this thread, the bit about training AI is pretty misleading. It’s not hard to scrape webpages for whatever kind of data you like, even if loops doesn’t outright hand things over for third parties for that purpose.
And the kind of people who are downloading the entire internet to train AIs are the type to be willing to just scrape without permission.
Like, you know he’s not personally involved in the design or manufacture of these things right
Not everybody does. I’ve seen some threads, mostly on insta, where people were fallomg over themselves to get on their fucking knees to slob on Elon’s nob. I get that the average insta user isn’t the brightest, but people like that do exist.
And it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, because there is a chance that the hard work of the engineers, laborers, and Shotwell will be used for Elon’s fame throughout history.
So yeah, fuck Elon. The tech is cool as fuck though.
Hopefully instead of turning into a bunch of e-waste, a bunch of “useless” desktops flood refurbishers, and refurbished desktops become even cheaper. I wouldn’t mind replacing my dying media server.
Not every GET request is simple enough to cache, and not everyone is running something big enough to need a sysadmin.
Near zero isn’t zero though. And not everyone is using caching.
It has nothing to do with a sysadmin. It’s impossible for a given request to require zero processing power. Therefore there will always be an upper limit to how many get requests can be handled, even if it’s a small amount of processing power per request.
For a business it’s probably not a big deal, but if it’s a self hosted site it quickly can become a problem.
GET requests can still overload a system.
Paramount’s video player is ass. I have to fight it to start the video by reloading the page and clicking exactly in the right places. Then the player doesn’t pause when the space bar is pressed. And to top it off, the progress bar doesn’t disappear unless you click inside the window then float the mouse away. Fuck that noise. It isn’t worth it. What’s the point of paying if the service is broken?
Yar har.
They aren’t, it’s just an excuse.
No, they need to have perpetually increasing profits.
This is exactly the thing I’ve been looking for. It saves everything as a sqlite db, and has csv export options. So you’re not fucked over if you need to switch to something else. It’s compatible for linux/windows.
And the import options seem pretty good too.
Congrats, you’ve made me spend the whole day switching everything over to that lol.
The only real issue is that one of my banks deals with more than one type of currency. So I’ve had to write a custom script to handle that. But all in all, this is a massive upgrade for me. Thank you for this recommendation.
just finished bioshock, wow!
Fantastic series, I’m glad you liked it, because I sure did as well.
I’m sure you’re already loaded up with a backlog of recommendations and games you bought but haven’t yet touched. But I’d highly recommend FTL: Faster Than Light, as well as Into The Breach. They’re both from the same publisher, and are both amazing games that arguably are a defining feature of modern gaming.
I hear there are cheats for call of duty type things that people pay subscriptions for. I don’t get it.
Yeah, I’m right there with you. Could not care less about subscriptions, let alone for cheat subscriptions.
Thanks for sharing your experiences mate.
Of course. Enjoy whatever is next on your list!
I will admit I’m making some strong, harsh statements. But I think that’s a pretty natural result of living in the U.S., a country who’s cops operate closer to a gang than Rescue Heroes. They kill minorities with virtual immunity. They racially profile people. The list goes on.
Somebody who intentionally joins a group like that does not have good intentions, or is ok with their buddies not having good intentions, or gets kicked out quickly for tattling on their fellow cops. So yeah, cops are never on your side, at least not here.
But if a police officer were to remove your phone by force, first it would be illegal without a warrant so it would almost made you a favour as all evidence in your phone would be invalid in court.
Even if what they find on your phone isn’t valid in court, it can still lead them to other things that are valid. For instance, a picture taken at a specific place with a timestamp. That picture may not be admissible, but if they find CCTV footage of you at that time and place, you’re screwed.
Cops can and will overreach their powers, and they’ll probably get away with it.
Even locked if they want the info in your phone they are probably getting it. They would have access to some of the best forensics teams and equipment.
Sure, but it’s a lot harder for them if your phone is encrypted and shut off before you encounter them.
Following the same logic, should we never have an unlocked phone near a police officer? I don’t know about that.
You really shouldn’t. Cops are never on your side.
Looking at you c/linuxsucks
